The Most Dangerous 2 Words...
Just Say No to "I KNOW"
I’ve begun to realize that one of the most dangerous and debilitating 2-word phrases in the English language is, “I KNOW.” - MoJOE
"I know" is a sure sign that I've closed myself off to any and every other possibility, which means I am no longer willing/able to grow. But growth is the evidence of life...and the opposite is true as well! I MUST continually cultivate curiosity with what I call a "willful suspension of BELIEF."
That does not imply that I must continually adopt every other belief system as my own, but it does mean that I must continually seek DISconfirmation, which will either bolster my position or invite me to adapt, learn, and grow.
Social science and neuroscience have identified 2 influential biases common in humans: NEGATIVITY bias and CONFIRMATION bias. When those two are in cahoots with each other, we too easily allow ourselves to be "under their influence," which means that, essentially, we are wired to seek confirmation of our negative pre-conceptions and pre-judices. DANGER, DANGER (Will Robinson)!
It takes conscious attention, intention, emotion, and ultimately, CHOICES to push our selves beyond our basic instincts -- which often just stink -- and tap into our higher nature as seekers, explorers, discoverers, and innovators. Simple in concept, challenging in application...but not impossible...and well worth the enormously positive ROI!
